Joakim Blanch
Ph.D. Candidate - Computational Science and Engineering
Department of Geology and Geophysics,
Rice Univeristy
Uppsala University
M. Sc. Physics Engineering (1992)
Rice University
M. A. Geophysics (1995)
Research Interests
Joakim Blanch's research interests are modeling of seismic waves and
inversion of seismic data, especially in visco-elastic media. At
Rice University
he is working in the TRIP group (
The Rice Inversion Project
). The group has, for instance, developed an inversion algorithm
(estimation of Earth parameters, such as velocity and density, from
seismic data) for visco-acoustic media. He is conducting his
research as a Ph.D. candidate in the interdisciplinary Computational
Science and Engineering program at Rice (GEOL/CAAM). Main research
topics include parallel implementation of 3D visco-elastic
wave-propagation simulator and investigation of resolution ability
in visco-elastic media. He will in August 1995 start as a Research
Associate to Prof.
William W. Symes
, Dept.
Computational and Applied Mathematics
,
Rice University
. As a Research Associate he will work on modeling and inversion of
GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) data.
